title: "Behind the Part: Shipping"
description: When a customer sends a model of a finished part, it may look exactly the way they need it to look. But that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s ready to be cast.

## **The Final Check Before Your Parts Leave K&H**

By the time a customer's parts reach Shipping at K&H Precision Products, they have already traveled through multiple stages of manufacturing.

Design. Pattern making. Foundry. Casting cleanup. Quality Control. Machining when required.

But the job isn't finished simply because the parts are finished.

They still need to reach the customer safely and in the condition expected.

That's why K&H views Shipping as more than the final stop in the building. It's one more opportunity to protect the quality of the customer's order.

## **The Last Line of Defense**

K&H considers Shipping the last line of defense for catching potential defects before parts leave the facility.

That means the final stage isn't treated simply as a logistics exercise. It's another set of eyes on the product before it begins the journey to the customer.

Depending on the customer's requirements, parts may ship directly to the customer or move to coating - or another specified finishing process before reaching their final destination. If they get coated, they come back to Quality Control for paint inspection before the final pack and ship to the customer.

Either way, the objective is the same: make sure the parts continue through the final steps of the process correctly.

## **Packaging the Part, Not Just the Order**

Manufactured components come in different shapes, sizes and configurations, so packaging isn't necessarily one-size-fits-all.

K&H keeps several standard box sizes available, but custom boxes can also be ordered when a part requires them. Dividers and other packaging methods can be incorporated depending on the component.

The guiding principle is straightforward:

Pack the part to protect it.

After all, producing a quality component only to have it damaged during transportation defeats the purpose of everything that happened before it.

The way an order is packaged therefore considers the parts themselves and what is needed to help them arrive safely.

## **From One Shipment to the Complete Order**

Not every production order leaves K&H at once.

A customer may order 200 components, for example, but have them delivered in shipments of 50. K&H considers the job closed once the final parts from that order have been placed on the final packing list and prepared for shipment.

But even then, K&H doesn't necessarily consider the customer relationship finished.

A few weeks after an order closes, the company sends a brief customer satisfaction survey to gather feedback about the experience. That feedback becomes another way to understand what's working and where the company can continue improving.

## **Why It Matters to the Customer**

Every department in the manufacturing process has an opportunity to influence the quality of a finished component.

Shipping is no exception.

It's the final check. The final protection. And the final handoff between K&H and the customer.

Because a successful manufacturing process doesn't end when the part is finished. It ends when the right part arrives safely in the customer's hands.
